Wathen Grange is an independent school for students with emotional, social and behavioural difficulties. Our students have often had challenging lives and their range of needs is usually complex. We aim to provide a high-quality education accurately matched to those needs

We look to support the whole child and link with the family/carers and the full range of relevant professionals to provide a clear, coherent and co-ordinated package of support.

This includes a careful balance of suitable practical and vocational activities, and the development of basic literacy and numeracy skills necessary for success in school and later life. This enables students to achieve success in learning and take pride in their achievements not only helps with their academic attainments, but provides a structure within which the child’s social and emotional needs can also be met.

In addition to a solid curriculum tailored to students individual needs, the students at Wathen Grange also receive a significant package of pastoral support from the Head of Education and Learning who also acts as SENCO. He is supported by the Head of Inclusion together with the Senior Management Team, Class Teachers and Learning Support Assistants in developing individualised programmes of support.

These programmes are delivered through Individual Education Plans designed with staff and where possible the students themselves. The team at Wathen Grange are obviously central to the delivery of the above aims. Team members receive regular training and performance management.
